Well that worked out okay.  I was initially planning to do a flat ride up the street I live on, in protected bike lanes, and turn around and come back.  When I got to the turning point I was only at 5km and felt pretty good.  Then I thought...ride to the beach and take a selfie!  Why not?  Turns out I am so out of shape after the surgery and recovery, that climbing over a 50m ridge was all I could do.  I got close to the beach but thought coming home alive was the better part of valour.

Pretty good for a first ride of the year, all things considered.
